*LATEST PLAYER INFO: 30/11/08

I am currently using FireFox3 to browse the net, with the FoxyTunes add-on which is a great plugin. You can use it to control your media player (winamp, vlc, etc..) or it detects media like the mp3s on this page and you can play them if you want to.

You can get it here for FireFox3: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/219 or if you use internet explorer you can get it here: http://www.foxytunes.com/ie/download/

I totally recommend using firefox to browse the web along with this plugin. The player on this page (yahoo music player) integrates with foxytunes, so if you have foxytunes any page with mp3s on it can have a player like this one.

*CASIO.MP3 2 minutes 52 seconds. Funk tune inspired by 70's synths and Herbie Hancock. I programmed and recorded it in FruityLoops, and then played live guitar using Acid 4.

*CREEP.MP3 3 minutes 51 seconds. For the Radiohead fans. I like Cartman's rendition in the 'Scott Tenorman must die' episode of SouthPark too. That one is pretty cooooo......

*SKAZI VS. PL0WBLADE.MP3 5 minutes 18. A nice simple psytrance song inspired by Skazi. Metal guitar and a pumpin' tempo. I seem to remember using synth1, slayer... Dunno what else specifically. Reverb, compression, EQ. etc. Nothing too wierd here.

*FILTERED THROUGH THE HUMANS 9.MP3 1 minute 30 seconds. Hmmm. I'm feeling kind of strange right now... This one sounds like some binary data converted to soundwaves and being filtered through a human!

*EGYPT.MP3 8 minutes 37 seconds. Probably too long, but nice guitar solo work, a scat solo, and some interesting sounds. I never bothered taking the tune further than this. Pretty experimental and I don't know what genre you would call this. Like most of the music I make.

WARNING! *SO ANGRY WITH YOU.MP3 1 minute 40 seconds. This one contains lots of naughty words, and will be very offensive to a lot of people. Do not listen to this one unless you want to hear lots of angry swear words. You have been warned!

*TOUCHDOWN ONE 1 7.MP3 4 Minutes 54 seconds. This one reminds me a little of Doom Episode 1 Mission 1. (The first person shooter by ID Games.) If I had to make the music for level one it would be something like this. Nice tempo, lots of energy, a little bit frantic but you are winning! Nine Inch Nails overtones maybe?

The Blurb:

My old music production systems (Two PCs) both died within a month or two of each other, at the end of last year. I had a hard drive failure on one 80 gigabyte Seagate Barracuda. The other system I had at the time, I put a DVD burner into. Woops. Problem that... It was a little longer than the CD burner it replaced. on putting it in I accidentally had bent over some components on the motherboard as the stupid case design didn't allow proper room behind the drive bays. I had pushed the drive in and hadn't noticed bending over a capacitor or two, and that they would now be shorting out on the DVD case. Turned it on... BZZZT!! Quick zap noise and the power LED flashed on then off. Off for ever more.

And so here we are nearly a year later! I can't believe how long it has been! At some stage in the near future I will be getting it back together again. Probably install Cubase SX, Fruity Studio, Wavelab, a whole assortment of VST and VSTi plugins... And that will get me happening again. Looking forward to it.

I am keen to see what will actually come out of my psyche, when I start writing again. It has been a long hiatus. Probably do some psy stuff and I am also interested in doing some less rhythmically focused melodic tunes with orchestral type sounds and ambient background themes, like wind and nature sounds, interspersed with different ah, 'sound textures' maybe I'm thinking something like AIR (the french band) multiplied by Aphex Twin, minus Trent Reznor, Times two and a half John Cages, now subtract Beethoven, and now you are getting an idea of what I am intending to allow us to hear.

A little on psytrance:

Psytrance is still not a mainstream genre. Artists such as Skazi and Infected Mushroom have done a lot in bringing the artform to wider audiences. Yet you still rarely hear about any of it in the general media these days. As such, You tend to have to search it down, the music you like to hear. The music that when you are in the mood - Pulsates through your whole body. Stimulating every cell and neuron to come alive!

The song 'Skazi vs. pl0wblade' was written in a few hours one night, I stayed up all night (what's new) making beats and playing around with fruity loops and my guitar. The guitar is an old pale green Strat-copy that is a bit honky but fun to play really cause I can go sick with the whammy bar and give it a real beating and it doesn't mind too much. For a dog of a guitar, it's pretty good really. Some of the guitarish sounds, the power chords in the tune are some synth through distortion and guitar amp simulators, or the slayer plugin or something like that. The real guitar I played is all the rest.

Okay I have decided that I am going to be: The greatest guitarist in the world. How? LOTS of practice, and a little skill and talent. I am already Australias greatest living guitarist, along with being the greatest australian guitarist ever. Full Stop. :-)

See my blog here for some evidence, or search for yourself.

So the greatest Australian guitarist ever is definitely Liam Vickery, but how about:

The greatest guitarist in the world is Liam VIckery? Now that is cool... I would be pretty happy with that. So I wonder how much the search engine algorithms love me? Haha. As if " Liam Vickery is the greatest guitarist in the world. " is true... For now.

So yeah, hard work and lots of practice make you a better guitarist kiddos. That's all for now.
